Currency

The Goreans use also coins for any payments. The Coins vary from city to city, in some regions/cities only certain Coins from this area are accepted. Well known Coins are for example: the gold tarns of Ar, Port Kar and Ko-ro-ba and the silver tarsks of Tharna. Every year they try to standardize coinage, but until now without success. Also letters of credit and notes are known on Gor, but no paper currency.

The value of a Coin depends on the responsible city as well as the appearance of it. On most Coins there is a tarn or a tarsk on one side and the first letter of a city. In some cities, such as Tharna, the coins are drilled so that the people can might string them.

The smallest unit of the currency is the Tarsk-bit. Most Coins are made of copper or silver, the golden Tarn Disks are sometimes made in double weight, to push their value. There are also some Coins which can be splitter into pieces, so the people can make a change.

Referring to the books, there are the following values:

Tarsk-Bit:
from 4-20 Tarsk-Bits are one Copper Tarsk

Copper-Tarsk:
from 40 - 100 Copper-Tarsk equals one Silver-Tarsk

Silver-Tarsk:
10 Silver-Tarsk equal one golden Tarn Disk

Golden Tarn Disk:
normal or double weight, so higher value

For a Gorean, a Silver Tarsk is a Coin of considerable value. Most Goreans pay their goods and also the slaves with Copper Tarsks. A golden Tarn Disk is a high value Coin and is more than a low caste Gorean earns in a year.
